Is there a carb. thats equal or better than a Holley 800 or 850 Double pumper in power output?I`m thinking of getting rid of my Holley for a hot Q-Jet for my set up,any input greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I am going to use an 870 Holley "street avenger" carb on my car. It is a vac secondary and elec choke carb, which will be nice in colder weather. I did need to go up three sizes in front and make some changes to get the secondaries to open. There is a check ball to remove and some spring wieghts to play with but it seems like a very good alternative for a car that gets driven a lot. The carb was like $450 from Summit.

We did run a Q-Jet, though not a tweaked 800 version and the Holley beat it. I suspect the worked Q-Jet would be nearly the same as the avenger.

Rob,who is Rick Henderson?whats his V8 Buick name?

Brent,i prefer to go to a Q-Jet if i switch rather than another Holley.

    Thanks

Rick Henderson's name is {drumroll}... Rick Henderson :bglasses:

He has one of the 950HP carbs and has went 11.69 with it. For the last BOP race of the season he put on a 750 CFM Qjet to try and slow down and run in the 12's. He doesn't have a bar.

From what he told me, it was a wrecking yard carb that he rebuilt. He ended up running 11.9's with it, even after he filled the trunk with weight to try and slow down.

He also got 18 mpg driving it to Dave Knutsen's place. He must have restrained himself and stayed only on the primaries!!!

Send him a PM, I'm sure he'll get back to you. I don't think it was anything fancy, just a rebuild kit on a QJ.

    EDIT:

It looks like it was an 800, although I remember him telling me it was a 750.

Actually {drumroll} was to insert the sound as I revealed his user name:

    Rick Henderson

In your PM, you should tell him to be a little more creative. :bglasses:

Steve, you were right the first time, it is a 750cfm Q-jet, Any yes I did pull it off a car in a junk yard. It was on a riv, I believe, sitting in the back 40.

The car ran better with the Q-jet. The plugs looked better. Better gas mileage, and the dreaded black marks on the cement from the exhaust disappeared.

Now if you spent your money on some dyno sessions, you will be farther ahead than me. I spent three years trying to get the best out of the Holley. By the way it is a 1000cfm HP Holley.

I have a 800 Q-jet being built by Scotty Krone. He has it done, and I will pick it up soon, and let you know how much better it goes. Did someone say Dyno?

QJETS ARE GREAT!!! once they are set up right its so nice to have a carb that you dont have to mess with and gets good gas milage and perfroms at the track.
