  1. I was wondering what the general opinion is regarding the holley dp spreadbore carbs compared to a 800 Q-jet.. is there any advantage or disadvantage to the holley vs the Rochester? the one i have is mechanical secondary and not vacuum.. Bob

Any sort of economy with the Holley would be the biggest. Q-jet should get better mileage than the Holley.

I do like the spreadbore design though.....in either case.

Depends on your combination . That's a lot of carb for the secondaries to crank open so fast, even with a secondary accel pump. I agree Q Jet would be better on gas.

I think both are great carburators. The Q-jet will deliver better mileage and has an air valve to control the airflow in to the carb under full throttle. When this air valve goes bad, or the diaphram in the valve leaks, you'll get the notorious bog that you hear about. You have better streetability will the Q-jet. As far as maintenance the holley is much easier to deal with. Good luck. John Biggs. :)

  5. I have always used Q-jets in the past and what i think i'm going to do is have one setup for my combination by John Osborne and then compare the holley with the Q-jet at the track, both will be 800 cfm so this will be an ideal way to compare, i'll also compare them for street driving... :TU:
