I'm thinking about getting a Holley 2300 500 cfm 2bbl carb for my car, which has a stock 350-2. I'm aware of needing an adapter, and new air cleaner, but what is not clear is the throttle linkage. Also, what kind of jets do you think I'll need to get it running right?
There should be a throttle linkage that comes with the NEW carb. It just bolts onto the carb. How about just finding a 4bbl intake and a q-jet?
Well, I'm still debating. My biggest concerns are the fuel economy, and such. E.g. my foot, and the floor boards have a close relationship.
It doesn't change that much....fuel consumption wise. If you stay out of the secondaries most of the time, you'll baraly notice a change. Once you open them up, you're asking to watch the gas guage go down.
Actually you will probably get better milage with the Q-jet. There are a lot of oval trackers that make make 400+ hp with a Holly 500 (twist them very hard though) and the throttle response on a 2 barrell is very nice. But if you tune them for hp you will NOT get good gas millage.
throttle responce the throttle responce on my qjet is just as good as my 2bbl. I even rebuilt it myself. there is NO bog what so ever. I also put in diffrent primary and secondary jetting. and the other nice thing Q jets are cheap.. very abundant in the yards. although I did find one correct for my year so I spent a lil more on it. do some hw first by reading the book by Doug Roe. understanding the function of carb helps a lot in setting it before bolting it onto the engine. I have yet to run a tank thru it yet so i couldent tell you the milage though I do have a bit of a lead foot. Nate Nate
The throttle responce will be better with a 4brl than a 500cfm 2 brl. You lose throttle responce when the you lose velocity through the barrels, which is lost as they get bigger in diameter. A 500cfm 2brl carbs barrels will be alot bigger than the primaries of probally any 4brl you'll find, expecially a Q-jet.
Back in the mid 1980's (gasp!) I ran a Holley 2bbl on my Lark. It was pretty cool, with excellent throttle response. I think that this is due in part, to the fact that the 500 CFM Holley has a 50cc accellerator pump. Bottom line: It is an improvement over your stock 2bbl, and it's much easier to bolt on, but the performance is not as good as a 4 bbl. My $.02
