Look through my (misspelled) name ALLEN and also where the toothpick points .....Special thanks to Eric, AKA KILLERBUICK66455 for coming over and lending a hand....and his technical expertise ....and wrench-ability
So, did you use a trans jack to pull the tranny? I'll never do another trans job without first borrowing DugsSin's jack again. It make the job soooooooo much easier!
You WIMP....Tranny Jack Shmaammmy Jack Held it up with my left hand while I wrenched with the right :Brow:
Crack Crack Crack go Clack Clack Clack A Clacking....almost a ticking niose Only when in gear and under slight load - not all the time, but enough to know somethin's not right in TorqueCity Now for the REAL question.....Why did it crack ???? BTW, KUDO's to Eric.....who knew what it was immediately
Looks like a 3rd CRACK at the 7 o'clock possition. Just think....3 more cracks and you would of heard a real big noise:eek2: Lon
Thanks ALAN It was my pleasure and cant wait till you get the new flex plate so we can go crusing , The steak sandwishes were awsome !!
Alan - Is that a vintage part, or newer SFI flexplate? Could it be, oh, 34 YEARS OF ABUSE? I had problems like this with an early 80's deuce and a quarter with the 5.7 diesel. Torsional vibrations from the diesel were hell on flex plate and torque convertors.
Actually....the probable cause of failure was Drum Roll please..... o No: 1 Missing in action bolt ou: and a few loose bolts on the Trans Bell connecting it to the block ou: :spank: Eric duely :spank: chastised me saying this IS something that periodically should be checked Ummm......I was waiting for the 30,000 mile / 6 year together / many Many MANY Full-throttle Blast light to come on on the dashboard ?? o No: ?? Yes, this IS a 35 year old piece (from my #'s matching 400 mill) BUT it certainly was not cracked at all when last assembled in '99 Therory is that the tranny shifted away from the block enough to cause (serious) stress on the flexplate....which can be measured in fractions of an inch
And I thought I was going to be blamed because you were driving my largeness around that day. Being you and Eric caught it when you did it is just a PIA instead of a serious problem. Also thank the Buick Gods that it wasn't the engine sound you thought you heard. PHEW!!!!!ou:
Well.......it DID happen when you were in the car so maybe it WAS your Lardness err....ummm....largeness ??
ALAN-------ALAN-------ALAN There is a big car show on Sunday @ Firemans Field, Exit 64....................A few extra large "WASHERS" and your good to go. Why change your "M.O." now. :moonu: MOON' :moonu: P.S. Larry and I both agreed not to ride behind you anymore, we don't want to be caught in all those parts flyin' off BIG RED.
