So a bit off the Buick topic but I’ve always valued the wealth of life’s knowledge on here.

A friend close to me has been fighting a lot of pain for a long time finally today drs agreed that this person needed hip replacement surgery
Only 60 in good shape they chalked it up to genetics

    Looking for advice ,experiences,
what to expect on helping them get back to being healthy

Had my right one done about 5 years ago. There ar 2 main procedure types. The Posterior approach is the older way of doing the surgery. They go in through the back of your thigh. Lot's of muscles cut/detached. Recovery/pain is high. The second way is called the Anterior approach. They go through the front of your thigh. Because there is less muscle they are able to work around the the muscles etc. It does require a special operating table.
My wife is in the medical field, and we were originally going with the Posterior approach till she had a patient that had the other procedure. We changed surgeons. I had my surgery on a Thursday afternoon. Was up walking the next day. Went home on Sunday, and on Monday walked out and got my paper. 550 feet one way. I had minimal pain (I deal well with pain). The home therapist came on Monday and checked me out. Said home therapy was of no value and I should go to out patient. Drove my F250 standard shift to therapy that Thursday.
So, based on my experience tell them to research the Anterior approach for their surgery.

My dad had his right hip done earlier this year (Mon morning Sept 9). He was on his feet using a walker the same afternoon walking around the hospital bed. He came home from the hospital that Wednesday still using a walker. He had to wear compression stockings on both legs to prevent clots. He couldn't drive for the first month or so. While home he had a visiting nurse and physical therapist make several appointments per week.

Well, by the time of his follow up appointment on Thurs 9/19 his surgical scar with healing quite nicely but he had a nasty cellulitis infection in his right foot that was now above his ankle, so the doctor put him back in the hospital. Strong intravenous and oral antibiotics thankfully put the infection on the retreat and he was back out of the hospital five days later, still on oral antibiotics.

Thankfully as of right now the infection is gone and he's off the antiobiotics. He is now moving around pretty well with a cane and can drive again. He is going to outpatient physical therapy. His lesson for anybody having to have this done is make sure they give you plenty of antibiotics when you leave the hospital. He says there isn't really any pain, but it feels "like something happened to my hip". Well, yeah, it did.
