My garage is a small 2 bay with a low ceiling . I have the body of my car disconnected from the frame and sitting on 6" blocks that are on the frame. I have no room above to use cumalongs and straps to hoist the body the required 10" to clear the frame and roll the chassis out from under . It`s going in one bay while the body will remain in the other. I have the room I need but not enough to use the strap method. My plan is to run 2x6s mated together , like a header with plywood between,in the rear wheelwell area where the body sits on a mount surface that is flat. I`ll do the same in the front, where the four body mounts are located , extending the "headers" past the exterior edges of the car so I can make sawhorses of sorts to use at all four corners. Anyone else do this? Any pics to show me or advice?? TYinAdvance. JIM/Rott

Take the wheels/tires off and drop the frame down on a set of decent caster wheels bolted to an old bed frame? If the motor and trans are out they should be more than strong enough. Maybe drop the rear out as well.

    Guys,
Whenever I needed a little extra room to get a frame out from under a body I would bolt on 4 of the little spare tires they have on the new cars.

This will drop the frame a good 3 inches or so and still allows you to push it around easily, plus they clear the dics brakes.

We have a couple sets of them in our "family" and swap them around.

Duane, great idea. I have 14" Buick Rally rims on it now, that I may be selling, so they are coming off anyway. definately want to keep some wheels n tires on it so I can roll it into the other bay and then disassemble it there. All four tires are sitting in casters to facilitate the interior removal, so once I lift and shore up the body I can pull the casters for a few more inches of clearance if need be.

George, althou helpful , I wish to keep the frame a rolling chassis for now until the money tree thickens out! In order to do that I need around 75inches of clearance to roll the tires on by the stands and clear not only height but width.
I do wish my garage was as clean as yours!

I have the same issue. I solved it by unbolting the body, jacking it up carefully with a short 4x4 with the wheels on the chassis. Just enough to clear the frame to insert a 4x4x8 in to places to be supported with jack stands. Removed the wheels and tires. Put the discs/drums on flat furniture dollies. see my pics.

I had to pull the tires as well, and put the drums on wheel casters to drop frame the required amount. TY for the advice guys! JIM/Rott
