Looking for a good rear end to go into my '72 GSX. It's a 10 bolt posi now with the factory springs and arms. Looking for a 12 bolt posi or maybe a 9" setup for the buick. Open for other things too. Will consider narrowed too.

    Thanks much,
    taylor

what you have is just fine

If your car has the original rear, it is a 8 1/2" 10 bolt which is just as strong or stronger than a 12-bolt, plus part's are easier to come by, and the rear was still in production up through just a few years ago :TU:

Other than ease of changing gear ratio, a 9" Ford isn't the strongest rear on the face of the earth, plus where the pinion is located in the housing rob's you of power.

Don't drop a Diamond to pick up a piece of cubic zirconia :Smarty:
Keep your current 8 1/2, you'll be just fine and money ahead :3gears:

GM wouldn't have placed the 8 1/2" 10 bolt behind every Big Block they've produced in the last 35 yrs if they didn't think they could handle the torque and abuse.
The pinion diameter is bigger than a 12 bolt, and the axle's are stronger too.
Beat on it, you'll be fine :bglasses:

    8.5 10 bolt rear strength

We can build that 10 bolt 8.5 real strong if you like or i do have 12bolt chevy rears too which we can put 33 spline axles and eaton 33 spline posi unit in. That should be enough for a good while. email me and or call 1 216 464 2313 x240 weekdays 10 -5 I will get you a quote on the gears posi axles setup everything. I even sell disc brake pakgs. if you like. Let me know.

Like I said the 10 bolt 8.5 is NO slouch either. good luck in your choice
