    Hi

I just purchased a complete new Msd distributor and they told me that i should also change the spark plug wires. Any of you have good recommendations for "better" spark plug wires, that will fit good on the msd distributor? I use it without the 6al box and i got the 401.
I changed the spark plugs only 1000 miles ago, so i think they will still do a good job what do you think?

    greetings alex

All brands that are up to spec perform the same.

    "Claims of Horsepower Gain
Every brand of spiral conductor ignition wires will perform the function of conducting coil output to the spark plugs, but NONE, despite the claims made in advertisements and other promotional literature, will increase horsepower. Independent tests, including a test performed by Circle Track Magazine (see May, 1996 issue) in the USA, show that NO "low-resistance" ignition wires for which a horsepower increase is claimed do in fact increase horsepower - the test also included comparisons with solid metal and carbon conductor ignition wires.

Jim is right, the only way you can pick up horse power by changing wires is if the engine is in bad need of a tune up. Then you only regain the hp that was lost by it being out of tune.

By opening up the gap of your spark plugs about an extra .005", the firing voltage will increase thereby creating a hotter spark. No high performance coil or wires are necessary. I learned that tip from my auto tech teacher a long time ago. Sounds logical to me.......for a fairly stock motor anyway. :TU:

    hi
tnx for the replies they where very useful

So i now understand that there are no really high performance spug plug wires.

However should i change the wires or the sparks, when i install my new msd distributor? My wires seems to be prettty small.
And i saw msd offers for around 30 bucks a new ignition coil with around 15000 more volts than stock. Is this in combination with the distributor worth to buy?

You may not gain any hotter spark with hiperformance wires but chances of leakage are greatly reduced. That MSD ignition really puts out the power. The hiperf wires have much better insulation for heat and electricity. Also, don't look for that stock coil to hold up to long. In my book, what little these upgrades cost is worth it.
