I have a '70 Buick 350 315 HP that seems to use one fourth of a quart of oil every couple hundred miles. The engine has 56K original miles and all of the tests (compression, leakdown, etc.) are excellent. I talked to another owner and he said his Buick 350 uses a quart in under 1000 miles. His engine has 135k miles.
Does anyone else have a problem with high oil consumption?

  2. No serious oil consumption here, until my rear main seal starting dumping oil last summer...

    oil consumption

does the car blow blue smoke out the exhaust ? if so , it is rings ; if not , then most likely it is valve seals .
had a 710 datsun that after 3 years burned a quart of oil every 500 miles & the cause was valve seals .
always figured a motor should use about a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles .

A 30+ year old car with low miles has likely spent a lot of time sitting. Valve seals like to dry out and crack over time.

Posibally leaking? Jack up the car and take a good look around.
