I have a '70 Buick 350 315 HP that seems to use one fourth of a quart of oil every couple hundred miles. The engine has 56K original miles and all of the tests (compression, leakdown, etc.) are excellent. I talked to another owner and he said his Buick 350 uses a quart in under 1000 miles. His engine has 135k miles. Does anyone else have a problem with high oil consumption?
oil consumption does the car blow blue smoke out the exhaust ? if so , it is rings ; if not , then most likely it is valve seals . had a 710 datsun that after 3 years burned a quart of oil every 500 miles & the cause was valve seals . always figured a motor should use about a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles .
A 30+ year old car with low miles has likely spent a lot of time sitting. Valve seals like to dry out and crack over time.
