I believe you have to go electric to get higher flow. I don't know of any hi-flow unit that'll bolt up in the stock location.

If heat is a problem, you could get a 4-core hi-efficiency radiator. They have 15 fins per inch instead of 12.

    Thanks Phillip,

I was aware of the electric pump... which my be an option when they get on that works with AC and PS.

I curently have a Alum rad / and and a 4 core. The car still gets to the 195 to 200 degree mark in traffic when it's 100 degrees outside. Going down the road isn't a problem at all. At this point, it could be the electric fans I'm running not drawing enough air (which is probably the case). I just thought I'd get a nice new pump just to make sure. Mines about 4 ot 5 years old now.

Are you using just the electric fans or in conjunction with the belt-driven fan? I looked into the electric units, but couldn't find one or pair that flowed a LOT of air.

I put a non-thermal clutch fan on mine. My car stays rock steady at 185 whenever I drive it. I did at that water wetter from RedLine also.

    Rich,
100 degrees over ambient temperature is the best you can expect from a cooling system. If it is 100* out, 195-200 water temp is fantastic. I'd say your cooling systems doing just fine:TU:

Yeah, just electrics. It's a dual fan setup off a 98 or new Dodge Caravan. They fit the stock radiator nicely.

I know 195 to 200 isn't going to hurt anything, but it would be nice to see it sitting at 180 in 100 degree weather.... Mabey I need to try out one of the lincon cop car fans that Mike G uses.

Rich, I think your cooling system is doing a great job there, trying to cool a big block in 100 degree air is quite a chore.
You are right about needing more fan though. You gotta remember , those electrics from the doge caravan are only designed to cool a 4 cyl or possibly a 6 cly engine.
They do make big electric fans for trucks that are designed to cool bigger v-8's. Jim Burek

The fact that you have plenty of cooling while cruising and not at idle indicates that the problem is lack of airflow at idle. Some guys on the Chevelle board have discovered some very high flowing OEM fans. The Lincoln Mark 8 is the highest, flows over 4000 cfm, draws like 50+ amps on startup and 40 amps continuous. There is a place in Houston selling takeoffs at a reasonable price. Another one is the dual fans from a Windstar. Both have solved tough cooling problems. For aftermarket fans, Spal and Derale are about the only ones that actually flow what the advertised cfm rating is. This info coming from a guy who does his own testing on fans. A hint is to multiply current draw by 100 to get an approximate max cfm; i.e. a 10 amp fan will not move much more than 1000 cfm.
