High Beams?

    What with inspection season coming up, I decided to take a look at my lights today... and they're broken too! As we know, Skylark headlights are lined up something like this;

    (1)(2)====I====(3)(4)

    When I turn on the low beams, lights #1 and #4 turn on, as they should. But when I switch over to high beams, #1 #2 #3 turn on, but #4 goes out! Any ideas? Should I just try replacing the bulb? :Do No:

    Not exactly sure what would cause that.

    Kinda unrelated. Couple months back, I needed to buy a new head light. Looked at how old mine looked to be, decided to replace them all. It was a night and day difference.

    The bulb is bad. The outside sealedbeams have 2 filaments, low and high, thats why they have 3 prongs, and the inside highbeams have 2 prongs. When you turn on the highbeams, the inside high beams light, and only the high beam portion of the outside sealedbeams light. That sealedbeam that goes dark has a blown high beam filament. Replace the sealedbeam on that side.

    How much would a new set of bulbs cost? Do they still sell round ones like we have at auto parts stores, or do you have to special order from somewhere?

    Mike,
    Last I checked you could still get them. Have a look at your favorite parts store. Shouldn't be a problem.

    When I got mine, they were scarce on the shelf. However, the parts guys were happy to order them.

    Oddly enough, I bought my new high beams on ebay. Guy was selling overstock parts, $8 shipped for the pair.

    John, what kind of search keywords did you use to find the right sort of lamps on ebay?

    If you just want replacement lamps, you should be able to get halogen ones very cheap at any local auto parts store.

    If you want a show car with the year-correct T-3 lamps, these can be ordered from several specialty vendors for about $100 per set of four.

    I just punched in the part number into the search. Can't recall the number off-hand.
