Ok its no secret I am planning to go to the buick event in Colorado so now the question How will I adjust my set up for the altitude?? Jet sizes?? How many do I drop? Timing??? Anyone know a small formula I could start with?? o No: o No: o No: o No: o No: o No:
Hey Mike, With a motor like yours, it's a harder game than the typical motor. You would be safe droping a jet size on all 4 corners per 1000ft in elevation. This should still leave you a bit on the rich side (better safe than sorry). As for timing, you should be able to leave it alone as well. This is what I've done in my travels with good success......... Of coars read your plugs after the fist run and make changes from there.
I just took a gander at my airport directory and see that Pueblo is 4726 ft, track elevation is probably in that ballpark. What's your elevation at Topeka? Might not be worth messing with for just one race. You'll be richer higher up, might not be worth risking the lean mixture problems by mucking with jetting. Unless, of course, you also plan on winning King of the Hill at Las Vegas on Oct 4, then it might be worth the tuning effort. I've never heard that timing is affected by altitude, only jetting. How fast does that 'street car' go now that you've got it sorted out???
Mike, I called Barry Grant about this on my demon and they told me 1 jet for every 1500' of altitude. And the tech guy I talked to was very confident in this. As mentioned before, for 1 race, I aint gonna touch it I don't think. Unless I get there of course and its just rotten rich. Then I'm not sure I could leave it alone, lol. Track altitude is 4900' as written on the flyer I have from the track information page off the site. Oh yea.........leave the timing alone I was told tooo No: later..........................
