I have been working on my new "outbuilding" so I can actually finish my 71 stage 1. Part of this process has involved digging out my present 3 car garage which has been home to my wife's VW Cabrio (Doh!), my 70 Sportwagon and a huge pile of parts and junk I have collected over the years. As I moved my Sportwagon and started shuffling piles of 1971 GS grilles I found that what I thought was a shelving unit actually was a 1968 Skylark Convertible. I don't even remember buying it but I must have. Hope I did not pay too much. I wonder where the rest of it went?
Unfortunately I cannot stop bringing project cars home. My wife must really love me. She loves old Skylarks too, and I almost have her convinced that in order for me to have a "finished" GS she will have to sell the VW and buy one that is finished. Maybe if I see her driving one I will finish my 71!
Nice archaeological find "shuffling piles of 71 grilles"? Hey, maybe if you dig around a little more, you might find the mythical lost grill mold? And maybe even a molding machine? And bags of resin already to be molded into thousand of 71 grills! Yeah, that's it! Man, that convertible top must be pretty strong judging by the stuff piled on top of it! :eek2:
Pompei 2 Another victim of the eruption of Mt. Saint Buick. Now we know what happened to the dinosaurs.p
Some of my favorite posts have shown cars under "wife debris" in the garage. My favorite was the one I think Mike Strinich posted of a yellow GSX literally squatting under the load. All you could see was the bumper and wing. My garage has only trashcans and cars in it. Dan
Yes!!! What a great pic! I'm not sure why it's a great pic, except to know that there are original cars hiding in garages that I might one day stumble upon. It's kind of sad to think that car has been the shelf for christmas ornaments and boxes of old McCall's magazines, instead of flying down the highway and turning heads. Dan
It's one of those "thrill of the hunt" type things. A picture like that says that there are still diamonds to be found, and gives you reason to keep searching. I haven't stuck it big yet, but one of these days I'm bound to cross paths with a GSX right? The search continues....
I know where my stuff is. Maybe I don't have enough stuff. Extra set of GNX wheels, conversion parts for 350 to 455 for a '71. Other odds and ends. I need more space to lose a car. Although I've dreamed about it oddly enough.
Here are pics of an 69 GS 400 convertable that I found and bought for $1900 Canadian at an industrial park in Red Deer Alberta. It was frozen in the ice. It is actually in fairly good shape. Upon further inspection and decodeing it is a numbers matching unit. Options included 3;64 posi, front disks, buckets, console, pb, pw, cruise master, ralley pac, power top, courtesy lamp package, etc. It had 102340 miles on it and the interior was very good. Fairly good deal. Keep looking guys! There must be more out there!
