I have seen MAF and Ignition modules make cars do weird things.

The car is running great now, thanks to all the advice and suggestions guys. It still bugs me that the MAF didn't throw a code.

Jim, Hold on there, you don't get off that easy! Fuel filter and MAF? You do realize that you have to swap out the MAF again and report back don't you? How can we help the next guy with those symptoms if we don't know for sure what the problem and fix was? John

    FYI...

Dealers charge a one hour of rate to do a diagnostic. Worth every penny. Find a good dealer bring a good book and quit fooling around.

I don't spend hours searching anymore if I can't figure it out with my scanner in less than an hour I'm off to the dealer. 5-6 years ago I spent days and a half tank of fuel trying to find a very minor surge at highway speeds in my Ford conversion van. Dealer could not figure it out in the diagnostic as it would not do it in the shop but they could feel it on the highway. Their ace mechanic was so intrigued he talked the service manger into keeping the van for teaching purposes. It took two days and they fixed it at no charge for the opportunity. It was the electronic fuel tank vent sticking and and only opening under high vacuum. Did not feel it under 60 mph. Needless to say they earned my trust. The Chevy dealer in town is just as good with GM stuff.
