Hey guys- any one got any ideas on a knocking noise that comes after the car gets under way? It sounds like something in the tranny/converter but could be anywhere in the driveline at this point-- its definitely not the motor as it does not happen while power braking or relative to rpms when under a load-- only when the car is in motion- sounds like a rotating/spinning part tapping something and is a very consistent knock knock knock relative to speed-- 5 mph there is about a second interval- high speed the knock is constant--

It came and went at first but has slowly worked itself into a constant thing. It does not happen straight out of the hole but takes about 20-30 feet before coming on...

torque converter and flywheel have a very slight weeble wobble at idle but noise is not there unless the car gets under way but does not change relative to load

    any ideas greatly appreciated

    thanks

What kind of car, what kind of driveline?

Ya I guess that would help....

62 Buick Electra- 425 Nailhead with ST400- 2 piece driveshaft shortened 4 in or so-

Its a strange one- you can hear it in the car, sounds like its right under the console--

The way it came and went made me think it was somthing to do with a pump or fluid levels in tranny but the consistency which it knocks with is directly related to the car in motion or at speed- you could set your watch by it rolling at about 5 mph

    thanks again

Check the u-joints ... Also see if anything is touching any moving parts like exhaust to drive shaft etc. LOOK for anything shiny or scrapped. Anything loose. Do the basics before tearing up stuff. Jim
