I bought a 70 Skylark. Very nice. It has AC but the belt was removed. I was told that the AC works but needs the new coolant. The previous owner had some issues with getting the AC setup so he just removed the belt. The belt that came with the car is 15615 and is in a FLAG sleeve with #61515 but also shows Goodyear 15621/13615 and Dayco 15615 I think it is about 63" circumference.

So I installed the belt but the belt sits about 1" to 1.5" above the dual alternator pulley so I have been trying to determine what is the problem. I thought that the AC compressor was too high but I think now that the alternator is too low. I am thinking that the alternator adjuster bracket is incorrect and does not go high enough and curve downward. However if it was taller then the bottom bolt would not mate with the lower AC/Alt bracket.

I have a 72 GS 455 with AC so I checked on that setup but the brackets are different. The bottom AC/ALT bracket is thicker so it raises the Alternator about 1-1.5" and has a longer bracket that curves as I mentioned above. It seems like the Skylark alternator is too low.

The 350 has an aluminum Stage 1 intake manifold. Not sure is there is any issue with the height VS the original cast iron intake and maybe affecting the height of the top AC bracket?? But still it seems that the Alternator is too low.

Thanks for any help. I hope this makes sense and that I am explaining correctly. I have added a Pic of both Skylark and GS

I don't know for sure...it's something going on with both! Ok...the AC belt should not touch the alt pulley at all. The dual pulley is only like that for clearance. If you have the right belts on either alt or compressor, they should be near the middle of the adjustment. Only the 70 alt looks like that. You can't buy the exact right size belts now, so the "middle" can vary. I think 70 brackets are unique, I'm not sure about 350's. Look at George's info, google buick performance club and look at the info on brackets.
