I have taken the left door mechanism out of the door on my Riv. After I get it out, the only thing I find is that the rollers are 'wobbly'. I dont know if this is designed in so the window can follow the curved track or if they are worn out. :Do No:
I read somewhere that the factory put the doors on the car and adjust the window mechanism to roll up and down properly, and then last they put the door skins on. I am considering removing the door skin and then putting it back after I get the window mechanism back in and adjusted. :Brow:
What do you guys think?????? Has any one done this repair before????
I do pretty good on the mechanical stuff but I am not up to snuff on the frameless windows.

Doc you can do all your adjustments with the door skin intact - but it's tight and watch the sharp metal edges ! Only '63 to '65 Rivs had the luxury of removeable exterior skins ! The adjustments are the same for power or manual windows. Just follow the '68 body and chassis manual info for 'E' body removal/replacement and adjustments. Clean and lube all tracks and rollers prior to reassembly. Make sure the front pivot arm moves freely in it's mount. The rollers have some wobble in them so they can move freely in every direction as the window travels up/down. Service the door latch 'n lock mechanisms while you have the room (if needed).
Fairly involved, but after the first one, it's easy ! :beer :TU:

    Issues

    Yup,
on my 68 both windows are flopping around so you cant get them to work at all.
I took the drivers side out and have let several months go buy without putting it back because I really dont know how. I am an old mechanic but I dont have any written material on it. If you can would you put the info on the computer and i will print it out. :Brow:

I'll see what I can do - but if you plan on keeping the car, Shop and Chassis manuals are a good investment !
They are also available on CDs, but I've never seen one to compare it to an original.
That should be your first major purchase if you own an older vehicle ! :Smarty: :TU:
Are they power or good old 'by hand' regulators ?

    window glass .....

Yes , I knkow what you mean about the shop manuals. I bought one that is supposed to cover all models of Buicks for that year. And it does. It has how to adjust the sheet metal, doors, ect. but doesnt tell how to do the internal window mechanism adjustments. And it is a buick factory manual. Appaqrently they have some suppliment that I dont have.
The windows are power windows. The motor and mechanism seems to be O K but out of adjustment.
The car is ruff but I can change that, slowly and over time.
I definitly plan to keep the car. I bought a 68 Riv GS back in 68, but the ex got it in the divorce settlement. Dang, I miss that car.
I intend to make this one as near like the original one that I had as I can.
The original was special ordered to my specs, no vinyl top, metallic dark green, ralley wheels, GS pkg, 3.42 posi. red line tires, all black interrior.
This one was given to me by a friend that has since died, and has sentimental value. We couldnt find the ign. keys and he decided to drill the switch out. [bad mistake] I just stood there and watched him do it, didnt say a word. I didnt want to hurt his feelings. :pp He thought he was helping.
It took me a year to find another switch and set of keys. The 68s are a stand alone year for the ign. switches and no body makes them any more. :Smarty:

Interesting story Doc - I can appreciate your passion !
All the information you need is in the '68 Body Service Manual (spread over 1/2 dozen pages, p.6-40, 6-41, 6-62, 6-67, 7-14, 7-15, 7-16), too much to scan! Check and see if you have the info in your manual. If not, shoot me a pm with your address and I'll mail you photo copies of the pages you need, to get you going.
The manual covers all body styles, and 'E' body is the only info you need. (I'll include the rear quarter glass info too.)
You can get a '68 Fisher Body Service Manual on evilBay for around $25 + shipping - the '68 Chassis Manuals are a liitle more.
No supplements needed ! :beer :TU:

The pony express (aka: Canada Post/USPS) still works !
Just thinking Doc - use the right hand door as an example to reassemble the driver door, before you tear into the right side.
I do brake jobs that way - it makes it a little easier. :Do No: :TU:
