A guy has some heads to sell me and he says they have extra threaded holes about 7/16" diameter going into each combustion chamber. They are each at different angles and plugged up with bolts.

Is this some factory modification on some models and if so what would they be for?

He's going to post me some pictures.

    Air Head ?

I would bet they are 66 air injection reaction (A.I.R.) heads. Air was pumped into the exhaust ports of all cylinders to help burn unburned fuel and reduce emissions. These were mandatory in CA.

Are they as good as a normal head and worth buying do you think?

Will performance be effected in any way for example?

    Air Heads!

There were no changes to the combustion chamber casting in the smog heads. There should be no increased turbulence if the bolts are flush with the bottom of the hole. The only drawback I see is the increased possibility of exhaust leaks from around the bolts used to plug the holes.
