Help! Thermoquad turbulence

I put a Thermoquad on my dominator intake (Wildcat) using an adapter I had made. Did this (as well as a stock GS hood) for the PRO Edelbrock race this weekend. No Dominators are allowed and no scoops higher than 4 in. ....mine came in at 4 1/4 in.

Previously when I ran the TQ I always had to have some sort of base to smooth out the air to make it down the track without breaking up but with this setup there is no room.

My question is: would cutting the vent on an angle make is less senstive or maybe a hose on the vents leading away fron the carb area.....or 90 deg plug wire boots on the vents that I have seen some people use?
    Any other ideas?

I run a moroso lid and drop base on my comp. series 1000. It runs alot better with some kind of air control.

I have two comp. series thermoquad 1000s. One has an angle cut on the top vent the other does not. The one with the angle runs better.

Thanks David I think I'll cut the primary vent at an angle. They are only 1/4 in away from the hood.
I wonder if some window screen might be good to bring in case it starts breaking up 2/3 track .
I'm trying to run the 10.50 index instead of 11.00 (no 10.75).
They make you committ to an index before you make any passes!!

ps- East coasters: come see some wild action at Maple Grove (PA) this weekend!!!:stmad:

Sure enough it started breaking up halfway down the track.
    12.20 88mph
So we left Maple Grove )PRO Edelbrock Nostalgia Muscle car class) to shop for some window screen to put over the carb to smooth the air out but on the way I saw some old windows by the side of the road so I got some screen.

    Worked great.....124.5 mph

The tech guy made me put duct tape over one of my openings on the GS hood, said NHRA rule only one opening allowed!
Ended up taping both sides to not have the air coming from the side.
As a result I only ran 10.77 on a 10.50 index and lost first round.

Enough of that...... scoop hood and Dominator going back on for Englishtown.

Can you explain to me what you are talking about? I have a stage 2 hood scoop and I seem to have problems at 2/3rds track, with some kind of a miss or hesatation. Could that be my problem, and where do you put the screen?

Sure, it's uneven air flow or sometimes just too much bouncing around. The screen assures a smooth laminar flow of air into the carb as well as on the bowl vents so it can do it's job.
I have the screen attached to the underside of the hood.......hint, go to a kitchen supply store and ask for a laminar flow air diffusion noodle strainer. Look for the one with a pic of Warren Johnson with a chefs hat on.

Bruce, is this if you have no air cleaner? My air cleaner sticks halfway up the scoop. I probably can lower it with a drop down base though.

Yes I have no air cleaner. Do you have the K &d N lid?

Yes, I have the K&N style lid. It is a cheaper version, or one of their old style lids.

So it's sealed to the hood? If it is then try removing the seal and running it to see if there is a difference. If it's turbulence then that should make a difference.

    Bruce,
It is sealed to the hood. I had a two inch spacer, ran it and it still cut out at 5000rpm, and then went back to a 1 inch spacer, and it still does it.
I am beginning to think it is in the MSD Digital 7 plus box. I accidentally left the electric water pump and fan on too long and ran down the battery, had it jumped by a tow truck:mad:

Yeah, that or fuel pump not adequate.
Make sure your rev limiter is set high. I've seen some that cam on early.

Have taken care of the fuel problem with a sump and a good pump, but you got me thinking. I have the rev limiter set at 6200, and it doesn't sound like that. Maybe it is the springs.

Yeah, I just changed springs mine started at 115 and were down to 95!! Not enough for 6500 Stage 2! Now I have 135.
When it floated them it didn't really break up bad just nosed over.

Back off on your lifter preload if you can and see if that helps. It might be lifter pump-up.
