So there I was, working on cleaning up the frame and getting ready to install some coilovers in the rear and found something I didn't expect to find. Car in question is a 1966 Buick Skylark 4-door hardtop (300 2bbl, ST300). I am I believe 3rd owner and the car was all original, had approximately 100k original miles on it when I bought it with no modifications or major work obvious work done to it besides a cheap repaint sometime in the 2000s.

Pretty much all of the pictures and info I have read shows that the rear upper spring perch and shock mount should all be the same where there is no divider between the spring and the shock and the top of the perch is indented laterally across the car to provide rigidity. The kit I have uses this feature to mount a reinforcement bracket to mount the top of the coilover setup. But alas my car has a different upper spring perch with no identation and a reinforcing divider between the spring pocket and shock mount for reinforcement. I also reviewed the service manual and the images that I could find show the frame as I had expected it to be.

Has anyone seen this before? Is this something specific to Buick A-body cars?

Pictures with red circles are from instruction sheets and highlight the indentation to which I was referring.

    Anyone?

    Thanks,
    -Steve
