Are there any trends with the 2001 - 2004 3800 used in newer Buicks? My friend's is losing coolant somewhere. Any radiator or head gasket or ??? issues?

The intakes were still prone to leakage, GM needs to get off their butts and do something about this problem already.

Check for signs (staining) from corners of lower intake manifold,or the upper plenum to lower intake gasket below throttle body,or the throttle body to upper plenum seal.
There is GM recall to replace the throttle body retaining nuts & install pellets to the cooling system on some 3800'S of that age.Have your local dealer run your VIN for recalls.

Gotta love that dexcool......keeps me in work all year.

The EGR port (in the upper intake) is also prone to melt and cause the coolant jacket seal to leak.
