Does anyone have the secrets to adjusting the hood. I have about a 1/4 inch higher hood than the fender. This is on the drivers side up toward the windshield. Is there a process that anyone knows that could help me get er close. The passenger side is perfect. :Do No:

Try loosening the hood hinges and lowering the hinge a bit. May just be enough to do it. There are 3 bolts.I'd try loosening the front bolts a bit more than the rear one at first.

I have tried to loosen the bolts and push them down then tighten back up. When I lower the hood it seems to be in the same position as it was before.

The foam is still soft and does not seem to be pushing up on the hood. good thought though.

Should I loosen all the bolts and close the hood to see if it will even go down to the even position with the fender?

Have you checked to see if the hood adj. bumper is up too high ? You may just need to screw it down a little. It will be close to the firewall towards the rear of the hood close to the windshield.

Did you replace the fender on that side? There were some fenders made incorrectly and the top of the fender is too low. Both my '70 GS 455 and pro streeted skylark are this way, and the only way to fix it is to cut some of the spot welds loose, raise the fender sheetmetal up the required amount and weld it in place.

That was my thought. The rear hood bumper that the hood hinge is up against (when hood is closed) might be to high. Try screwing it down one turn then check the hight of the hood.

Sometimes a worn hood hinge will cause the hood to not sit properly when shut. When its closed, can you press that corner of the hood down and get it to line up?

Assuming the hinge bolts to your hood like a 67 does... (I'm pretty sure it does.... 2 bolts pointing straight up..... see pic)

You need to shim between the hood and the hinge at the front bolt (towards the front of the car). Try about 1/16"-1/8" first, and then add or remove shims as required.

The geometry doesn't make sense unless you really think about it... but trust me, it works like a champ!
By shimming the front of the hinge down, you're causing it to close "further" which brings the back edge of the hood down with it. I had to do it on one side of my hood... and also one side on my trunk lid.

Excellent advice, I will try most that I am able to today. :TU: I hope it's not a sheet metal problem, cutting spot weld does not sound to fun. I'll report back on my success or continued efforts. You know it's always something, but that's why we have them. :)

I figured it out, The hood seal right that runs in front of the drain area for the windshield was pushing up on the hood. It's the factory seal and has become hard. I put a slice along the front edge of the seal so when I shut the hood the seal folds over itself, now the hood sits great. I will be looking for a new softer hood seal soon. Thanks for all of the suggestions. :TU:
