Looking for 1970 GSX that is realistically priced. I've seen the $80k+ prices from some of the classic car dealer websites but looking for something more affordable. Can be a project or unrestored car. Would also consider a nicely done clone/tribute car. I've been away from the car scene for a long time and I'd like to get back into the hobby. I had a real 70 GSX 20 years ago and sold it as a project in Tampa in 1987. Boy was that a dumb thing to do....
When you say "realistically priced" how much are you talking about? You will be hard pressed to find a driver for less than $40k these days, and many people consider $80k to be "cheap" for a nice one. Good driver quality clones are in the 20's, (sometimes less if they started as a Skylark) and nicer clones are in the $30's. It will probably be hard to find a project GSX for less than $20k (although I do know someone who found one fairly recently for less than $10k, but that is the exception not the rule), and you will probably need to spend A LOT to make it nice. You need to figure out how much you want to spend, and how nice (or not nice) of a car you want for that money, and then it will be easier for us to find you something that fits your budget.
Chris, Thanks for the reply. You mention a driver for somewhere near $40 for a REAL GSX or a project car near $20k. Those numbers are "Realistic" for me if it's the right car with correct parts and numbers. A nice clone is not out of the question either but those would need to be "really" nice for $25-35k range, preferably a GS Stage1 car as the basis. My preference is an authentic GSX if one can be found for the price range mentioned above. I've been away from the car hobby for too long and it seems like prices have followed the realestate market for the past few years - going out of sight for the average person. Appreciate any and all help as well as suggestions in determining a fair price for whatever cars I look at. Thanks for the help! Rob
Your welcome Rob, I am sure the board will be happy to help in anyway possible. Of course, if you find a GSX in your price range, I wouldn't let anyone know, you should just buy it real quick, becuase they will be very few. It will be easier to find a really nice clones in the $25k - $35k range, then it will be to find the abovementioned GSX. In that range I would expect the car to have started as a GS, and probably even a 455 or Stage 1. I know of several sales recently it that range (one was mine, and it sold twice, it was a 10/10 Stage 1). Bill Van Steen here on the board has one, but he is trying to trade first, and sell only as a last resort. His started as a 4 speed Stage 1 car. (here) Good luck! Chris
yeah, you missed out on chris's car, anything he recomends is good to go :TU: watch the board,he throws things up for our attention all the time :TU: ive seen bills clone in person, before he did  if you can...buy it!!!! :Smarty:
Does anyone know about the GSX/clone listed in this thread? http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=113661 This seems like a candidate if it can be authenticated as an original 70 GS 455. Please let me know if anyone knows the car and it's history. Still looking.... hopeful someone can find me the right car. I'd love to have a new toy for Christmas Thanks - Rob
They could have at least left off the Buick emblem on the nose of the hood. Not a bad looking car though.
Also, looks like a small block engine to me. It has the deep "small block" style fan shroud on it. Wonder which trans and rear gears he's running? o No:
"It has the Stage 1 aluminum intake manifold." I do not think he relaizes that this is just a name given to his type of aftermarket intake manifold once made by TA Performance.
My 2 $ Inflation........Would you not be better off digging into the piggy bank and finding a real gsx........after the money you could spend on a clone( reason being parts) and the one's you need to make it realistic that same money could well be spent gradually on a decent restoration........That's just my 2 dollars worth........there is no substitute for original........and 20 years down the road???????????????
Also have access to a 70 GSX 4 speed with A/C Not a stage one car. Fully restored but a little higher than your price as quoted. John
I Like This is it real? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...oryZ6144QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
got one... Well, I found a car and I'm picking it up in the morning. Verified by Wayne Roberts.... 70 QQ Stage 1 4 speed no a/c Non original engine but a nice car overall. Will be a good basis for the "never ending" process of finding and fixing the little things as needed to take it as close to original as I can over time. Bought it as a "keeper" and I think I'll really enjoy tinkering with it for many years! Thanks to everyone on the list for their help! Especially Duane Heckman!!!!! Rob
That car is incredible. I love it! 32K is a great price for all the work that thing has had done to it, whether it's a real GSX or NOT. That is a steal. 4 wheel discs, a be cool radiator, built 455 with 3 inch crossover exhaust and a gorgeous (in my opinion) paint scheme that Buick "should have" done. The wheels and tires, suspension upgrades....I'm tempted to sell my GS. :Brow: :error: :bglasses:
