I just rebuilt my engine and the intake is leaking exhaust in the front. both sides where the intake meets the heads .Is this a common problem with 455,s? I used the metal gasket with RTV around all the ports both sides.
I did get to drive the car around the parkinglot where i work and O what fun the big block is. Thanks for the help. SS

Where exactly is the exhaust coming out? What intake, and what heads are you using?

Sounds like he didn't plug the egr ports. You can see the 4 ports on my 73 heads..:Smarty:

RTV is gas soluable and should not be used around the intake or exhaust ports only water. You need to use a specific gasket sealer.

i did not plug the egr holes. its leaking at the very top of where the intake meets the head. if you are facing the front of the motor you can feel it shooting towards you. not up! this is the stock manifold. stock 72 heads

Ah.. I bet you have a 70 shim in there. It doesn't match the 72 egr holes..

Take off the manifold and check.:TU:

is the shim part of the gasket?

The intake gasket is metal and it is often called a shim type. The 70-71 gasket is different than the 72.
