looking for some help making decision here. I dont know how to post the link for an engine on ebay. But maybe someone can help me . Ad said engine is a 455 from a 71 buick riveria gs. rebuilt 1 1/2 years ago. I emailed the seller and asked for the casting #'s and they dont seem to ad up. He gave me 1231736 for the block and 1231109 for the heads. Just looking for any help on making sense of these casting numbers. 2456550311 is the ad # on ebay. Any help appreciated. I just want to make sure if I bid I know what i'm bidding on.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Ask him to double check the block number. 1231736, the last # could be an 8, making it a 70-71 block.....1231738.

    1231109 are 68-69 430 heads.

Based on the color the engine is painted, I would be nervous about what you have there.

Thanks for your help, and yes I am nervous about what I would be getting. Think I might pass on this one.

Well... It's gotta be a buick... the front of the engine tells it all. And I think I can only make out 5 valve cover bolt holes, and that means big block (if I rember correctly).... Only question is if its a 400-430-455:Do No: :Do No: With it being rebuilt.. the color doesn't mean anything...

I'd lay money down on it being a 430 (especially with those head #'s). See if he can shoot a pic of the block above the bell housing, Shouldn't the CID be cast into the block there??

    what about the carb?

It looks to be a 67 or 68 because the fuel inlet is not straight. I could be the wrong carb. It would nice to see the other side of the carb to see if it has the linkage for the S/P solenoid.
