1972 Montes almost all came with 12 bolt chevy rears.... It was the end of the era run and they were shoving them up in every a-body that hada 350 4 barrel and better motor... lol. I restored 70-72 montes for years and they were a VERY good sorce for 12 bolts and gadget parts like power windows lock tilt etc.

As far as I've seen, all of the Montes had disc brakes, and the rear frame stiffeners.
There's a guy here with a Monte Carlo farm that I have plucked rears from for awhile.

Nothing really. The 12-bolt Chevy rears that came in the Canadian cars had what I call a Canadian yoke. It looks like a BOP yoke, with u-bolts,and takes the 3R u-joints. The pinion snout on the 12-bolt Chevy is slightly longer than the BOP,but shorter than the 71-72 8.5" 10-bolt,so check your driveshaft for proper fitment.

Montes Just have more Options... Dashes were the SS dashes... It was a PERSONAL LUXURY car...lol.

Chevelle guys always parted the poop out of them in our yards years ago.

You should not have any issues swapping a 12 bolt Chevy for any A-body rear car other than if it is a 71 72 10 bolt corporate rear. (THIS IS FACTORY STOCK CAR) BUT as we all know finding a factory stock car is almost nearly Impossible these days....

Cars have been restored 2-3 times wrecked reborn modified parted out then restored...lol. It is ALWAYS best to install the rear - Measure the length with the suspension loaded and then make the cut or make the driveshaft.

Always consult your Driveshaft shop on how THEY want you to measure for the cut or length needed to make the driveshaft.

This way you do not get the blame for WRONG measurements. :)

The Canadian cars referenced above need more clarification.

1964-1967 Oshawa built Buick & Olds got 8.2" 10 bolt.

1968-1969 Oshawa built Buick & Olds got 12 bolt Chevy.

Oshawa production of Buick & Olds ended with the 1969 model year.

No, no, no. This car has only 23098 original miles. It's never been abused. It was owned by my sweet little old aunt who only drove it to Pick-N-Pay on Saturdays and church on Sundays. I promise.

I do not care how many miles a car has on the vehicle IT NEVER MEANS it is ORIGINAL... Period. You can drive it off the lot car can get side swiped fixed with a different rear put in from the accident and put back on the lot after the trade in... MAy be it came with a car fax too. ...lol. :3gears:

Little old ladies RUIN CARS! Probably had 1 oil change but she paid for 25 of them.... Places scam the poor little old ladies big time. Probably the original oil filter from when she bought it too. I am just messing with you...I am sure it is great....
