Where is it leaking? That would help in answering your question. If you want to rebuild it, either get a factory 71 Buick Chassis Service Manual (readily available for $30-50, E-bay or old car literature vendors) or a good book on TH 350 transmissions (see Amazon.com.) Way too much info to post on the board...

Also, a leak is not in and of itself indicative of the need to rebuild a transmission. A transmission that is leaking does not necessarily need to be rebuilt, and a transmission that needs to be rebuilt may well not leak. You probably just need a transmission pan gasket, rear seal, or an O-ring on the modulator, speedometer gear, or shift shaft.

I've got a bad leak coming out of the bell housing. I've pulled it off, but no clear evidence of where it's coming from. Anyone have any ideas? I'm pulling the motor and trans out in the next week or so and I'd like to get this fixed.

    Thanks.

Most likely converter seal, less likely front pump-to-case seal.

^What is needed to fix the "converter" seal, or the pump-to-case seal?

Have you reviewed the manual I linked above? It will say it a lot better than I can. Both seals will require dropping the trans.

Thank you for all, and for your doc. :TU:

for my car the big leak, it s on the front of my th350. On the front you ve the protection of torque converter, it s here the leak. i think it s just near the torque converter.

    bye.

Check page 44 for the converter seal. Page 58 mentions the pump-to-case gasket.
