Just bought a '69 2-door convertible Wildcat in decent shape. Problem is, its been sitting for 12 years - not running in a garage in the Seattle area. Becasue of all the moisture here, the seats, trim, convertible top etc. is full of mold. I am cleaning it up but wondered if anyone had a few suggestions on how to get the engine ready. I am a newbie at this (except for a '74 VW Bug I overhauled) so was wondering if I could get some tips?

Also was wondering about Chrome emblems and body trim for this year. Where should I look?

Also am lwondering about the top. What is a good cleaner that works on mold and is safe for the top? I have been using Simple Green on the vinyl seats and dash but is it safe for the top? I am also looking for a convertible boot for when the top is down. Is my only option getting one custom made?

I am excited about this project! But help!:Do No:

    Rev,
If the car has been sitting that long, the gas in the tank is useless. Drop the tank and drain it. Check the rubber portions of the fuel line for dry rot, and replace where necessary. Have the carburetor rebuilt, and treat the engine to a major tune up. Pull all the plugs and pour some marvel mystery oil or WD-40 into the cylinders. Let it soak for a day, and then try to rotate the crank with a breaker bar and 1 1/8" socket. If it turns freely, change the oil and filter, put in a fresh battery, and crank her up. After it starts, I would change the coolant out ASAP. It's a Buick, it will probably start and run good.
As far as the mold, simple green is as safe as it gets. If it does the job, use it. Convertible top questions, post in the Ragtop shop forum on this BB.
Emblems and chrome, post in the parts wanted forum on this BB, or check on E-bay, or recondition what you have. Good luck.

Mother's convertible top cleaner. Then if black, Turtle wax crem tire blackner called Wet n' Black. Mold is tough. You may never get it out but rather just cover it up so it does not show so bad.

I would be careful with the Simple Green. I like 3M cream interior cleaner.
