    Vin...43471G100217 please decode this vin.

    Trimtag...ST 71 4347 S 630 801?

    TR 156 67 F Pnt

    1?8D

I know the vin decodes to a gs, and the plant is framingham Mass. No way to tell if this car was a small or bb without anything original on it, or a build sheet. I really need the particulars on color, trim, vinyl roof? Seems to have been a bench seat notch back? Any help is really appreciated. There was a four spd bb setup in it, not original engine though. Thanx,
    Dennis

    Hi Dennis,
My car was built at Framingham, Mass as well. Did you check under the seats for a build sheet? In my car I found two build sheets under the seats (Framingham "thirds" as both were only a third of the original build sheet) and I also found a full build sheet on top of the gas tank so you may want to check there as well.

    Yes,
There is no build sheet. If i want to put this car back together, i need to know all the particulars. Car is just a shell right now. My 70 is a framingham car and didn't have any build sheet either. So if anyone can decipher the numbers for the trim and anything else that is important, please do.

TR156 = Saddle interior, vinyl, with notchback bench.
67 = Burnished Cinnamon lower body colour, F = Dark Brown vinyl roof.
Check your 1?8D again. A 3 digit code will be the build date on the car.
Usually 2 digits for the month, last digit ( letter) indicates which week of the month. Mine is 01C = January, 3rd week.

That is a very low vin number you have Dennis.
Probably - 08D - August, 4th week on trim tag.

It is probably 12D, and the vin is low because GM was on strike from 9/15 - 11/22 (producing zero cars for nearly 3 months), and the vin is low because Framingham never spit out GS's like Flint...:bglasses:

Holy crap! That is same trim code as my car. Burnished Cinn. With brown roof
and saddle interior. Only difference mine is Flint car and is Stage-1. Probably not a Stage-1 car because framingham. Some say they were built there in 71 because they WERE in 72. I have my doubts in 71. Does it have a transmission? If it does check for two letter code if automatic on metal tag on drivers side of trans. What does it say? Then check and look for a VIN on a pad stamped on the passenger side. If this matches your VIN(Not body number on trim tag) then we can tell what engine car came with. Had no idea twin to my car was so close.

STOP doing so much thinking...:bla: There is at least one 71 documented, #'s matching stage 1 built in in Framingham. Plus the daily car reports PROVE in 71 & 72 stage 1's were built there, no GSX's though.:TU:

Plus you can go to the stage 1 registry and LOOK at the vin's...

    Jeff,
You are right, and i figured the same thing, low number. They started knocking these out in august. I rechecked the build date on the trim tag and it came out O8D. No way of telling it is a stage one unless i go to the stage one registry i guess. Anyone have a web address for that? No engine, tranny with this car.

You can look, but it isn't there because only 1 71 stage 1 built in Framingham is listed in the registry. Now if you find some proof, you could be the 2nd!:Do No: There is also good info on trying to ID a factory stage...

Dennis, again is there a transmission??? We may be able to eliminate some things right away here. Does it have a full steering column installed or with the car? The 455 had a clamped lower portion. If you show a picture of the connection near the steering box we can tell if it was 455. Also is there a square plastic plug(small) in the firewall nest to the throttle cable hole? 455 cars had this to block the hole where a 350 auto car would have a downshift cable.

71 Stage-1's are impossible to tell unless you have trans or matching block. Do you have carb, dist etc. Stage-1 reg can't help.

Other places to find build sheets. Under dash. Inside windshield pillars, under sound deadner on floor. Inside door panels, Under seats

That's not true, you can tell a 71 Coupe BB from a SB by looking at the frame numbers.

Good one Duane forgot about that. I will try and post picture of 71 455 frame # which is located behind rear drivers side wheel. Old picture will not post but 455 frame part # is 1237139

Nice chart Dave. That shows it better than I can explain it.
