Hello - My good friend owns a 1969 nova that he is about to restore to concourse condition.

To begin, can someone on here help me decipher his vin and cowl.

Looking for all the things someone could tell me like color, options, and what ever else this car was supposed to have.

    Any advanced help is great.

    <table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="5"><tbody><tr align="left" bgcolor="SILVER"><th width="15%">Digit </th> <th>Code </th> </tr> <tr> <td>1 </td> <td>GM Division:1: Chevrolet. </td> </tr> <tr> <td>2 & 3 </td> <td>Series: 11: Chevy II 100**, L4; 13: Chevy II 100**, L6; 14: Chevy II 100**, V8; 15: Chevy II Nova, L6*; 16: Chevy II Nova, V8*; 17: Chevy II Nova SS, L6*; 18: Chevy II Nova SS, V8*.
*1965-67 only. For 1968-71, the VIN does not indicate whether the car is a SS. **In 1968, "Chevy II 100" was replaced with "Chevy II Nova." For 1968, "Chevy II 100" was replaced with "Chevy II." Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

11427 for VIN and cowl tag indicate 2-Dr Sport Coupe with SS Option.
9 in the VIN is for model year (1969)
W in VIN is for assembly plant, Willow Run MI

TR 733 on Cowl Tag indicates Black Vinyl Interior
61 61 PNT on Cowl Tag indicates Burnished Brown paint top and bottom.

    HTH a bit.

There is no way to find out if it's an SS from the VIN!

Go to Yenko.net and perhaps one of the guys there can help narrow things down.
