One word, LINELOCK You can easily do burnouts with this installed. It is a solenoid valve installed in the front brake line. It locks the front brakes only, which allows the rears wheels to turn freely. Doing a burnout without this puts alot of stress on the rear, just ask Johnno how many rears he's gone through

does it have to be in a straight line? How about a circle?

    Well, a circular burnout's a donut

the good old "brake stand" is probably the maneuver of choice, since burnouts seem to be in fashion this spring

simply apply enough pressure on the brake pedal with your left foot to keep the car from moving while you press the gas down with your right foot. Full brake isn't needed or good

Don't do this near cops and put extra wax on your rear quarters, it helps with cleanup.

Basically, a car that can spin the tires(and I mean literally smoke the tires) without brake torquing is a car that has a lot of power. Larry is right,LINELOCK is the only right way to do a burnout,if you really want to get the hides good and smoking.

Yes,burnouts seem to be in style this season!

Of course, don't ask me to do one on my '70 Stage 1,after I got done doing my frame-off restoration. I've spent countless $$$$$$ and time getting it right and looking nice.

I couldn't ever live with a real GS455 as a driver. My clone is tough enough to justify

    You cant be serious???!!!???!!!

A high compression 350 4V should have MORE than enough juice to light up one rear tire.... Even an N-50..... Even with the stock 2.56 gear.

If your asking for a "technique" on how to do a burnout, hold the brake pedal down JUST ENOUGH to keep the car from rolling forward, and HAMMER the gas pedal.... Keep the brakes depressed, both feet on both pedals. That's a classic brake torque.

If your asking because your car wont do it.......... It's time to do a LOT of tuning on your tired old 350.

I'v got a 70 skylark 350-2V [low compression] with a posi 2.56, and L-50's [275-50-15] with 146k miles and a mushy tranny, and it will still do a brake torque.

just wanted to add that if you have a stick car the line-lock is better on the front brakes so you can hold in the brake pressure while you use the clutch. For an auto we use the Line-lock on the rear to block the pressure from the rear brakes.

    nothing replaces displacement

if you really need to buy lots & lots of tires and spend gobs of ca$h yoink out that 350 and put a 455 in that hole !!
how fast you want to go depends on how fat your wallet is .

most important; nothing replaces displacement

I was able to burn the tire on my 86 Regal with a stock V6 (110hp) on dry pavement. Since I put the posi in, no burning. Actully, no nothing. All it does is go...very slow.

You have some fat tires on there, are you sure you don't want to get the engine a chance to break in first? Put some miles on it before you start to punish it. In water, you'd probably just need to floor it without holding the break pedal down, and the car will happily light up a tyre.

ok... i've been known to lay my fair share of one wheel peels in my former 350-4 Skylark.... in the school parking lot... much to the displeasure of the campus police... ;)

i never had a problem with the 2.56 rear and just matting the gas from a stop... gave a good 30-40 foot spin with plenty of smoke (good years burn pretty good i must say :) ...

if you wanna do the good ol stand still and smoke 'em trick.. little brake (just enough to lock the front brakes up) + lots of gas (tach is good, don't get the RPM's too high.. i sat mine around 2500rpm's and there was plenty of smoke) = lots of fun... however be careful on the brake... it can be pretty jerky if you don't do it right ;)
