    Dear V-8 Buick loyal soap-opera watchers . . . . .

    [IMG] We last left da' trusty wagon . . . . in the horrible clutches of :Brow:. . . . . . . not!!

Actually, this soap opera has been recently focused on trying to shoe horn in a Vintage Air Sure Fit GTO (or Chevelle) system into my trusty 65 Special wagon. All this was started by an optimistic posting by Frank (gobuick) who suggested this wasn't as impossible as it seemed. Key to this scheme was that Frank was able to get the bracket to mount the A/C compressor on a big-block Buick engine. Alas, the source where Frank got his bracket is no long willing to fabricate them. Without some way to mount the A/C Compressor . . . . well, that's the end of this enhancement. :(

There are two possible recovery strategies from this predicament:

1.) Modify the original Buick A/C compressor bracket to take the Sanden compressors that Vintage Air provides.

2.) Try to use another compressor that mounts on the original Buick bracket like the Pro6ten compressor suggested in another thread in this "soap opera." Of course the trouble is that the rest of the Vintage Air system may not be able to work with another compressor.

Does anybody have a bright idea on this predicament? I have a feeling this is the bridge too far for this trusty wagon makeover. :Do No: However, you guys have rescued me from worse dilemmas!

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

I have a CNC plasma table, if you make me a pattern I could see about getting it cut out for you, I just need hole sizes and measurements on everything:TU: or see if frank can copy his and I could see what I can do

Hello Edouard, I still have the bracket that then & now fabbed for my a/c system. What I did was go with a march serpentine system because the original ps pump/tank was interfering with the rack n pininon setup.

Let me know if you are interested in it. I can send you some pics of the bracket.

    thanks,

Hurray!! (Re: Bracket for compressor on big-block Buick ??)

Howdy Kevin, Frank, and V-8 Buick angels of mercy!! [IMG]

Really!?!? I had just remembered the March Serpentine System and was starting to ponder if I could stomach that. If you have no use for the old bracket, sure I would be interested!! :) Would you be willing to part with it for suitable? :dollar:

Certainly I would really like to make a pattern of that bracket created and would be more than willing to help in making it available to others. Frank would you have a problem with that?

Thanks gang!! You guys are terrific!! :TU:

Put me in line for one. I would prefer to use the Sanden, particularly since I already have it! Photos would be a great start. :Brow:

Sure need a bracket maker (Re: Bracket for Vintage Air compressor on BBB ??)

Howdy Adam and V-8 Buick cool-cat wantabees

The great JW has offered to hook or crook finagle a bracket for me while he still has my super-deluxe engine in his shop. I offered to buy Frank's bracket and have it shipped to Tri-Shield Performance so that Jim could use that as a basis. Frank has just taken some pictures that I'll forward to Jim to see if he thinks he can use that or would prefer to start from another Buick bracket.

My navet is showing up again. Somehow I thought that these brackets would be "one-size fits all" (big-block Buicks.) My thinking was that I would just simply buy a bracket independently of the engine and in Orinda just have the two bolted together with everything matching up perfectly. However, . . . . I wonder if this really is possible?

Does anybody know if OEM A/C brackets were really interchangeable across all the years of Buick big-blocks? I know that essentially all of the external components are interchangeable across all the variations of this engine. But there are engine compartment clearance issues.

It certainly would be really great to get detailed photos dimensions and ideally a drawing of this bracket . . . if it really was reasonably universal. I'll try to collect what info I can. If such a bracket is possible, perhaps da' Brotherhood can find one of the Buick vendors would could manufacture this bracket.

I think I'll have to play guinea pig when it comes to Vintage Air installations. If it goes well, perhaps it will be a prototype for others to follow.

So stay tuned . . . this soap-opera has a long way to go!!

    Thanks for your support!! [IMG]

Jim will cobble one for me. (Re: Bracket for a Vintage Air compressor)

Howdy Frank, Adam, and V-8 Buick ~65 fans,

I just got an email from the great JW regarding this Vintage Air add-on for my trusty wagon. There is - yet another  - complication in this soap opera. I promised that my super-deluxe engine would be available for display that the Orinda Classic Car Show September 21st. There was plenty of time for the engine to get to Orinda . . . . but now things are really getting tight. Jim thinks he can cobble together a bracket faster than Frank could get it over . . . so, I'll have to pass on Frank's Then and Now bracket.

So Adam if you really want it, now is your chance!

Another good solution (Re: Bracket for a Vintage Air compressor)

    Dear jm3 and V-8 Buick Coolcat wantabees, . . .

Actually that's a very good solution and definitely "thinking about of the box." When you have a car that isn't a "run of da' mill Chebby," you've got to be willing to try harder.

    Thanks for sharing your answer!
