    :Do No:
I have developed an oil leak on my 1965 Buick GS with 401 V8 that has stumped me. The leak is somewhere in the top part of the oil filter cover assembly, although I can not see where. I have spent two days replacing filters and removing the cover assembly and replacing it again, tightening bolts with no luck. I suspect that there is porosity in the casting. My question is, does anyone out there have or know where I can buy an oil filter cover assembly P/N 5576913. I will also need the gasket that goes to it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

PS I have edited this post to give a better idea of what I am trying to find. The P/N 5576913 is what is marked on the underside of the part. It has threads for the oil filter to screw on to and has a check valve. It also says "Replace with A C PF 7"referring to the type of oil filter replacement. I hope this will help you all understand what I am trying to find. Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about one of the AC external oil filters on the mid fifties cars? Dan

Sorry about that, I have a 1965 Buick GS with 401 Nailhead V8 that I am trying to find the above mentioned filter cover assembly P/N 5576913 for. This is the aluminum part that has three bolts that hold it to the block, and where you install the oil filter. Hope that is a better discription. Thanks in advance.

    PS,
My GM dealer said he could supply a gasket but not the part.

    oil filter housing

    Bill,

Can you tell if the piece is cracked or if the casting is just bad. If you don't have any luck finding a replacement I could weld and repair your old housing if you can locate the bad area. I do a lot of aluminum welding at work on prototype molds.

    Leak ?

    Bill,

Are you sure the oil is not from the oil sender above the housing, or from the valve cover leaking down the side of the engine? If nothing else, it could also be blow-by or crank-case pressure pushing air and oil out from under the head. It couldnt hurt to check your PCV and breather while youre at it. Good Luck!

Today I cleaned off all paint from the oil cover assembly, I could not find any cracks in the casting. I made a gasket so I could put it back on, but first I unhooked the oil pressure sending unit T adaptor that containes the line to my oil pressure gage under dash and also the original oil pressure electric sending unit to original dash gage that is mounted to the block per your suggestion. I cleaned off everything reinstalled the T fitting as tight as I could in the block, hooked up everything. I checked the oil level, started the motor and waited for the oil to begin leaking. I still have a small oil leak in the same area off of the oil filter as before, but it is much slower drip. I can not see any oil coming from the area of the T fitting to the block. I will keep an eye on the drip to see if it gets worse. I may have to find a better T fitting to the block because the threads on the T fitting in my opinion should have been deeper in the block. Thanks for all your input, Cherly, Don and Dan.
