I just did a 430 into a '68. It bolted right in once I got the correct frame pads. Do you have a budget in mind of what you would like to spend on a motor/trans swap? A stock 455 from '70-'72 will run well performance wise. It is just hard to find one that doesn't need to be rebuilt. The oiling issues on 455s are always big concerns, but they ran for 40 years from the factory so...

Another option is running the car with the 6 in it now and save up to do the swap.

Grab the car, and grab that 350/TH350 for $250. My 72 GS 350 ran 15.5 totally stock, manifolds and quiet mufflers. Lots of torque, everyone who drove my car loved to wear my tires off.

Does the Buick 350 have the same oiling issues as the 455?

    NO, they are tough engines.

The 400/430 engines have the same oiling issues the 455's do. 350's do not.

Welcome Flash9. I am not far from you in Raymond NH. I have seen the 350/TH350 that BuickRat has. It was pulled from a
meticoulously maintained 71 Skylark survivor. It is complete and ready to drop in, was running well before pulled(swap to bigger motor-wayyy bigger)
and comes with all the maintenance records from DAY 1! I would be willing to help move it to your house if necessary.
If you need any questions answered on the swap , Steve is your guy. Jim/Rott

    Do it!

I sold a 6 cylinder 3 speed 68 to a v8buick board member in IL nd he stuck a 455 in it. He couldn't find anything rust free in his area for twice the price he paid.

I think there is a board member here who turbo'd a straight-6, not sure what the end result of that ended up being.

My opinion and I'm a relative newcomer to Buicks myself is I'd rather see a Buick engine, but I'd also rather see a Buick on the road than wasting away or being crushed.

That said, I love the low end in my Buick 340 for a street car.
Oh, welcome to V8Buick as well. :TU:

Just an update here, have tried relentlessly to get in touch with the person selling the car, unfortunately there is a middle man involved and communication isn't his strong suite. Will let you guys know how this plays out, thanks for your help.

Well I ended up with 68 skylark, not the one I initially was trying to get, but a nice door slammer with a 350 4brl ,two speed, needs a little love.

Looks like a solid piece to start with, I dig it! Congrats on the purchase!

It has a '69 hood, not that that detracts from the value. That's a nice looking machine, for the NE. I hope it's not mostly oxides underneath.

    BUICKRAT's 350/350 combo sounds like a good deal.I once had a 72 GS 350 that embarassed many 350 Chevys

Went through the car last night, little bondo, floors and frame solid, all brakes new, tight suspension, need to address rear diff, best I can tell is it has highway gears, roughly two revolutions of the drive shaft to one of the wheel. All n all worth the wait.
