Spose' yall could introduce yourselves and help our new found friend out with his problems ? As far as meeting more Tx. Buicks, you just missed it man. The "brand X bash" is just not too long over. Too bad you missed it, but I know there is another run being set up as we speak for next spring........maybe see you there :Brow: later............................

Great looking car! man reading all those replies makes me wish I were in Texas......This is a great place for help....It has pointed me in the right direction a couple times.....RJ Hall :gt: with envey
Greetings from Austin, AJ. The buick scene is getting heavy here in Austin, we have quite a group of cars going now. I just finished installing a new 350 (buick of course) in my '70 GS350, and it was a big chore but well worth the wait. There are a couple good motor shops that could probably take care of the rebuild for you, I think the hardest part will be finding a junkyard Nailhead. Welcome to the board, let us know if you have any questions.:TU:
TXGS- thank for the invite, I sent you an email RJ Hall- I'm really excited to see so many Texas Buick owners. I was driving (racing) through Florida the first time I cracked my engine block. Chris Lott- I glad to throw my hat into the Buick scene here in Austin. I would be very interested in your engine shop recommendations. congrats on your new engine job, id love to see it in action sometime. I know that finding a nail head block will not be an easy task but I'm prepared for the challenge. thanks for the warm welcome everyone. aj
Welcome aboard. Nice ride....always have had an affinity for the big cars. I am realatively new to the forum myself, but I can attest to how helpfull, and informative everone has been. TX. may be leading in the no. of Buiphiles out there....I think you could fit all of us WV. Buick guys in the trunk of your ride, but what we lack in no's.....we make up for in enthusiasm. Seems like every car show, I have am given the proud opportunity to defend the Tri-Shields. Might be a good new thread.....a count on where the buicks reside.....From a state to state standpoint. Anyhow, Welcome aboard!!!!
LOVE those Wildcats!!! Welcome!!! At my favorite yard yesterday, came across 2 66 Wildcat 4-doors, one good straight body / interior, the other missing quite a bit. Both have nailheads present, minus miscellaneous bits, but looked mostly there (manifolds, water pumps, etc) FM 600 wrecking yard, Abilene, TX. Engine swapping... Well, the issue is this: I have a '71-'72 Skylark Convertible and have had the car for the past 13 years. I've done the interior, the top, and the body is solid. I like to rebuild the engine and have my son, 9, assist me and learn the joy of rebuilding an engine. I've rebuild two SBC, several Harleys, and one 4 cyclinder Ford. (That was for a relative...need I say more?) I've never rebuild a small block Buick and, after examining the cost of parts, have decided that rebuilding SBC are cheaper. Now the major question? Which SBC will fit (I haven't purchased one to rebuild, yet.) without 'breaking the bank'? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
To fit the SBC will require a lot of part swaping. New mounts, new tranny, some wiring harness changes. Possibly new front springs due to weight increase. The SBB isn't really expensive to rebuild. As long as you are doing most of the labor yourself, and you have a good core. Basically the conclusion is, it'll cost just as much if not more to go with an SBC.
