I did some searching and found this thread from a while back:

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18302

There wasn't mention of where to get the helicoil. I have a carb that doen't leak if you hold your mouth right when putting the inlet on but I'd like to have a solid fix. Does anyone know where I could get a helicoil this big and what size it is?

    Thanks.

You can go to AutoZone or an auto parts store. In the HELP section there is an oversize filter inlet housing that is self threading. I have used this on one or two carbs and it solve the bad thread situation.

I'm already running one of those. Those are the ones that taper out like pipe threads and have 4 splits in it, one at every 90 degrees, right? This carb just barely hangs on with one of those so I was hoping for a more permanent and robust fix.
    Thanks.

Check NAPA.....they used to make one that used a set screw and an "o" ring to seal it.....I don't remember anything else about it.:bglasses:

Sounds like your housing is shot. I would strongly suggest you don't drive the car until you get that fixed. All it takes is one lil leak and a backfire and you will have an engine fire.

The proper way to fix your prob is to get another carb body.
Those are quite common and easy to get.

I will get you the contact info for a place called "The Quad Shop". An individual named Jim McGowan (could be Dave) runs it. He can HeliCoil the carb inlets so you can save the carb. I have had this done by him. He has had a booth at the GSCA Nats both times I was there a few years back--also does rebuilds, recoloring etc. Patton
