Hello, strange people! :beer Just joined the board. NOT got a Buick! HAVE got a Land-Rover, 109" Series 3 3-door. However, in my defence, it does have a Rover 3.5litre V8, which some (most) of you will know better as the all aluminium (sic) Buick 215 Fireball. Just re-built it, fitted it in my Landy, and it makes me         I'll be sticking my nose in from time to time with questions. Like, where can I get a supercharger? Not one of those centrifugal things, not an exhaust driven turbocharger, a proper, sticks to the top of the engine, pokes out the bonnet (hood) and looks the bizzo type thing. Later, Iain
Welcome to the board Iain!!:TU: :beer For all intents and purposes....you're Buick powered!! :TU: You'll find several guys on board here that really like the little 215"!! Shouldn't have much trouble finding out whatever questions you might have. Every once in a while, somebody has a question about the Rover specific parts....you might be able to help with that.:TU:
Little? I know you guys consider the 215 'little', but on this side of the pond it's big! Consider that a Formula 1 (boring) car, such as Schumachers Ferrari, is only 91 cubic inch, a 215 is big. F1 cars are about 700bhp. Now if I could just get that power/size ratio......let me think, 91ci =700bhp, 215ci=1653bhp. That'll do me! Having said that, a 455ci would be 3500bhp!:jd: Just out of interest, what power do the top-fuel drag cars make, with what engine? Iain
Even compared to my 3800 (231") V-6 it's small!!:Brow: :Brow: Top Fuel dragsters are limited to 500", but make somewhere in the 6500hp neighborhood!!!:jd: Read the Amazing but true thread about Top Fuelers. Good read.....really puts their world into perspective!!:TU: :bglasses:
Re: Little? Wow. That is some serious HP from a tiny engine! I never realised they were only 91 ci :eek2: What kind of torque do they produce? I'm assuming that 700 HP is at about 10,000 RPM's or more? Oh yeah.... Welcome to the board Iain! :TU: :beer
Hi Iain, Welcome to the V8 board.:beer F1 engines turn at 18,000 RPM. I've read that the accelerative force on the pistons is nearly 9000 times gravity. No wonder they use small pistons.
OiOiOi! Just looked at the dragster facts bit. Oi! that's something else! 27 gallons of nitromethane per mile. Just on the run! Gas station every mile, stop and fill up, blast another mile, stop and fill up, not really very fast, then, are they?p Go on, tell me that's not the idea..........:Brow: Iain
I think I'd have to stop that often just to change Skivvies!!! This is Zach's car - I think his moniker here is 73electra-455 He's a youngin' with excellent taste in cars :TU: and he's sure found a beauty He also doesn't hesitate to exercise the 455' with his right foot and paint the pavement Twin-Strip Black ======
lists I notice from the sigs. that all you buggers seem to have half-a-dozen cars! I've only got two, no fair! Mind, the prices are a bit different here, a new Range Rover is around $170,000:jd: (The price of the average house!) US cars are available, and there are clubs for the owners, but they command silly prices. Only vehicles I've seen for sale in the US at silly money are Series Land-Rovers. Not the fastest, but the best 4x4xfar! As an average, rough guess time here, how much would that car of Zach's be worth over there? Tell me how heavy it is, how many bhp, and the engine size, oh,yeah, 455ci, and I'll work out how much it would be in Norway. Just interested......... Iain
