Which cable are you talking about? I can think of two wires from the pickup coil, connecting to two wires that go to the MSD box.

Pickup coil wires are infamous for breaking inside the insulation from movement caused by the vacuum advance. First guess: Replace the pickup coil, and your problems are over.

I had a real hard time understanding your question, but you might try cleaning some of the contacts.

yeah i think schurkey has the idea. the 2 wires that r inside the hei distributor that connect outside to the wires that connect to the msd box. im pretty sure that by replacing it will fix the problem but how can i prevent it from happening again. msd calls it hei module bypass cable. its the cable that replaces the hei module once u install the msd 6a. i would like to know how to prevent from breaking that cable or why it does that.

The pickup coil wires are fairly short, and connect to the non-movable module. As the vacuum advance pulls the pickup back and forth, the short wires work-harden and break. It takes a long time for this to happen, even with the short wires.

Depending on how you've secured the wires in the distributor, you've probably added at least 20% more length of wire which means the wire has more area to flex. You'll probably not have a repeat problem, ever.

(If you're breaking the MSD supplied wires, I have to think they aren't secured properly.)

yeah im pretty sure i did something wrong there with the wires.when u put an msd 6a you eliminate the module altogether though. the wires connect right into the distributor. im going to buy the part new and try to secure as much as i can thanks for the help.:tu:
