    Hello
Hopefully in the next week or so I'll be dropping the 455 into my 67 convertible. As I'm finishing assembly on the motor tonight, I realised it has HEI. (1975 455)
Of course my car (1967) is set up for points.

I've done the opposite in the past (Switch from HEI to Points) but it was a long time ago..and I forget most of what I knew then.

I have no idea what to do about wiring up the HEI.
Does anyone have a link to a good website that explains what I need to know, and/or how to wire it?
Or you could just explain it here?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!
    :beer

    Rick,
If you do a search on this BB, you'll come up with alot of info. The only thing you need to do is replace the resistor wire so the HEI gets a full 12 volts all the time. Extending from the fuse block is a calibrated length of resistor wire. It mates up with a wire from the R terminal on the starter solenoid and the wire that leads to the + side of the coil. If you follow the wire from the coil all the way back to the fuse block, eliminate the wires and replace it with a 12 gauge wire directly from the fuse block to the HEI feed on the distributor, your done. The wire hooks in to the fuse block on the engine side with a special connector. Releasing the connector involves unbolting the bulkhead connector and releasing the special clip, and then replacing the wire. Year One makes an HEI wire with the proper connectors on each side. It is part# L00510. Here's a picture.

Thanks for the info so far!
Yes....it's a bone stock HEI as far as I can tell.

I tried a couple searches here before I started this thread, and wasn't able to come up with much help. Maybe I'm not a good searcher. I almost always do a search before asking a question, for a few reasons.
1- So I don't ask the same question that was just asked last week.
2- It's quicker if I can find the answer immediately
3- I learn so much more by reading all the "sidetracking" that also ends up in the longer threads.

Anyways....Thanks again!I think you've helped enough for now. With any luck I'll be ready to fire this thing up by next weekend.
At about midnight last night, the car sat on all 4 tires and rolled a foot for the first time in months! I completely replaced the entire front end (ball joints, tie rods, a-arm bushings, springs..etc..etc) and just finished installing the rear end (with boxed lowers and sway bar!!) last night.

    Take care
    Rick
