Im replacing the heater core in my GS. It looks like someone replaced it once before. Is there supposed to be a gasket of some kind for the heater core to sit in? Someone laid a bead of silicone or strip caulk as a bed for the core to sit in. The blue clips are still there. What did th factory use? Or is the core just supposed to sit in there with no cushion? And there was no gasket on the heater box inside the car

Can't say for sure on a 70, but in the 65-66-67 stuff I have worked on the factory used the caulk on all of them, across all GM lines. The replacement seal kits I have bought all have a gasket to replace the caulk.
