Well, my heater core failed in a big way a few months back and I am just now getting ready to make it right again.

After I realized just how much antifreeze had leaked, I removed the carpet and the sound deading material. It was a shame because it was in real nice shape when I replaced the original carpet 3 years ago. Now with the antifreeze and additional age I had to remove all the tar paper. There is now some surface rust forming on the floors. My plan is to remove all the seam sealer, tar paper and prep the floors for POR 15. I am considering using Dynamat Xtreme or other similar product due to the fact that the headers and 3" x pipe does make the floor a little hotter then I would like.

The aftermarket carpet is still in good shape but I am not sure if I will get the Antifreeze Smell out of it. Should I just replace it or is there a good way to be sure the odor is gone. Note I sucked up at least a 1/2 gallon of coolant with my shop vac when it happened.

I have the replacement heater core, I am going to order a firewall / heater box seal kit.

I am looking for advice on how to proceed! Should I do the heater core first? Do I take the inner fender well off or do the drill the bolt out method? Is POR 15 and Dynamat Xtreme the best way to rust and heat prof the floor? What type and were do I get the seam sealer?

Thanks in advance for your help! :TU:
