Ok, you guys...question ?...Anyone block off their heat crossover
ports in their heads to keep the intake running cooler?
Any problems or ? Which intake manifold, cast iron or aluminium?
Some say puts to much raw fuel down the intake. Others say
doesn't work with a choke. Any experiences?

I run my Riv WITHOUT the heat crossover blocked off. I have a Performer intake. The car starts just as well without it no problems. Feather the pedal for the length of one song on the radio and I'm set!

I have mine blocked off. The choke will come on, but not come off, so I disconnect it. It starts with a few pumps of the gas, but I need to feather the gas for a few minutes, and it will run on it's own. If you only drive the car in warmer weather, there really are no downsides, but in the colder weather, it might be a problem. Depends on your timing and jetting.

Nothing a wire to twelve volts and an electric choke won't cure! Easy to do. I have one port on each head blocked on my Sabre. Kind of an experiment. I used freeze plugs, but dunno if thats the best. If one lets go say bye-bye engine!

    hrm.. good question.

my '70 motor came with everything... it was pulled outta some riv in a junkyard and it was shipped to me.. the funny thing is that the intake that was on it (which i've checked the casting numbers on) and it is a '70 intake... but it doesn't account for the crossover at all, with that intake on it simply left the buggers open to the world... i quickly replaced it with an edelbrock performer which accomodated the crossover and have since had no problem.. it rain fine with the other intake too... just wondering why the intake wouldn't account for the crossover when it's a '70 intake on a '70 block and heads

    sbbuick My driving scares people!

I blocked mine, but with a big cam it can be a bit of a hassle.
If going the blocked route, I'd definately plan on an electric choke.

Mine is also blocked off. I have no choke on the car so it will take a minute or two before it will idle on it's own. I don't drive it in the winter anyway so it's no big deal.

I find no choke is better over all [it a problem waiting to happen] but you gotta warm her up good or get on her good when ya leave. Gotta get some heat n that block. I run choke less on my 80 wagon and even here in Ohio it isn't to bad.
