I know that the later 73 and up heads were rated at lower horsepower than the 69-71 but would a good port and polish and valve work make them comparible? (Whats the difference??)

Yes, but the 75-76 heads have open chambers, are no good for performance work. Work up a set of 73-74 heads if you want.

From what I've seen, buying a set of 69 - 71 heads really isn't that expensive. It's paying for the machine shop's work that really kicks you in the wallet. Well worth it, I'm sure!

All 455 heads... yes, when you want to use a 400 or 430 heads, the rockers where oiled through the shafts. You have to use your 455 pushrods and rockers... and also, you have to plug an oil hole on the 455 deck to run 430 heads. Go to www.taperformance.com and go into the FAQ... there is a short write up on the minor mods you have to do to run the 400-430 heads.
