headrest latch question

Good one. Being my normal balanced self I thought that the headrest latch (or escutcheon if you prefer) release knobs would both point into the center.

But it appears that they both have the release knobs on the same side, as both headrests have the notches on the same side, latches will screw in either way, the plate they screw into has the holes in opposite corners so always the same no matter how you orientate it. The parts book only lists one p/n, the body manual only shows one example.

So 72 bench seat the headrest latches both point towards one side? Or do I have issues here?

    Thanks...

I still have the original bench out of my '71. I can check it in the AM but pretty sure your assumption is right. Ran across this with the bucket seats too.

Mine are both facing the P/S. My seats have been re-covered, so I'm not sure if they got changed or not. Boy, I'm a big help, huh? :Dou:

My original ones on '71 buckets both point the same way.The repros are oriented in the same manner. One thing to point out re the repros is the "latching" isn't as good as the factory pieces.Likely it is a lighter spring tension .One would have to drill out the rivets to change them.Might do it.

Yeah, thats the ruling I guess. I just looked at my spare headrests (4) and they all have the notches on the same side, plus the 6 extra latches I have are all the same...so yup, the knobs all point to the passenger side.

Kinda odd, I guess GM assumes most people are right handed..
