I got a headliner from National Parts Depot that is made for a 71 Chevelle to put in my 71 Skylark . Thinking that it is the same headliner as a Skylark, I tried installing it. Some of the stitched seams are not in the same location as the original ones so consequently the headliner doesn't want to stretch out correctly. Has anyone bought a headliner for 70-72 Skylark/GS that fits correctly?
I buy them from OPG and they fit well. Did you mark your rods' location in the roof before removing them? I believe all A-bodies share the same roof inner structure so they should interchange headliners.
George, I understand about the rod location. If the sewn sections are not in the same locations as the original, as in my case, the new headliner will never fit correctly without puckers using the location holes avail.
YearOne mistakenly sent me a 68 that did not fit in my 69. The bows lined up differently. Just an FYI.
Doug, No it is not reversed. It may well be the wrong year. I wish I would have checked it closer to the old one - can't return now that it is cut on.
Was the difference in the number of bows? I have seen a listing for 6 bow liners for 68 only (I figured 6 bow would be for a 4 door application but? ) and usually 5 bow is the standard for 69-72.
The number of bows was not incorrect. The stitching of the sews was of in a couple of spots 1-2". I got one from OPG and the the sews are right on. Too bad they didn't have the perforated type as they originally told me!
Wow. I have been comparing 2 different new headliners (both sold as being correct for my car) to an original that is out of a 68 chevelle and they are the same dimensions as far as I can tell between the 5 bow, and the same length compared to the one 6 bow that I have. My 68 Skylark had zero interior and I'm trying to figure out what I need.
