my headlights are acting up. i recently installed those new delta tech H4 headlights on my 70skylark when I have the low beams on they always stay on but they change their intensity like sometimes they get brighter almost like they have more power... but not getting it? then when I step on the high beam switch the headlights turn off and on off and on.. what can the problem be?? i checked the prongs on the headlight plugs and they are not loose... Oh and now my high beams wont even turn on just the low beams, what do i check??
sounds like your dimmer switch. It's a relatively cheap fix, like $10. And if it's not that, atleast you'll have a new dimmer switch. as for the low beams changing brightness, My 67 skylark does that too. I think it's just the voltage regulator trying to keep up with the current draw required by everything you have turned on in the car. -Josh
Nelson, check out this thread. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=11669 there is a good illustration of the wiring. the relay can handle the power a lot better than going thru 2 switches and a bunch of contacts. you'll defiantly want this conversion for those headlights so you don't burn up the rest of the wiring.
relays will give them a more constant, higher amperage current to keep them alive and take some strain off the stock wires. A must do with xenon lights :TU:
will these kit from ebay work on the skylark? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-...ryZ36476QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
you could just go to your local auto parts store and ask for a light relay similar to what the guys hooking up fog lights or driving lights on roll bars of 4X4's use. Its not a complicated thing, basically a remote HD light switch, find a relay that has a wiring diagram although. YOur lights could be going off because your light switch on the dash has all the amperage going though it going it and it may be overheating the switch causing it to cut out? Your light switch may be weak as well but either way its safer to use the relay than have a dash fire....
these lights take more juice to run and require good wiring. how new is your forward wiring? they probably dim as the rpms of the alternator decrease. u should also install a relay. there was a discussion on this site a long time ago about using these new, modern headlights.
Go with the relays. I did that a couple weeks ago with stock headlamps and I cannot believe the difference. It is the best thing you can do for your headlights. Like others have said, the relays are almost a must with the xeon headlamps they a very hard on the original setups.
Most intermittant headlight problems stem from a bad ground . Check the ground behind the rad support on both sides . Often the problem . The fact that conversion needs more voltage seems to be a constant problem.
well i bought an conenct 2 relays for my xenon headlights, but i still have the same problem (the brightness of the lights go high then low and when i hit the high beams they stay on for while but then all four headlights turn off and on so i quickly go back to the low beams, hmm maybe i could use a more powerful battery?? also i get whitish greenish debris around the positve battery post....whats that from??
