    Guys,

Something else to consider is the replacement of these lights with the aftermarket composites, which use a separate bulb. They will go in the original location, fit exactly, and will offer any intensity bulb you might want, without necessarily using a relay. I use the Hella replacements, with 100 watt high beams and 80 watt low beams, providing excellent visibility. The xenon replacement units are VERY expenmsive, and these offer relatively cheap alternatives. Ray

    Ray,

I'm interested in this too. I once saw in a NAPA book dimaond-cut looking headlamp replacements that use seperate bulbs... but it didnt apply to a 4 headlamp system

What part numbers from Hella did you use? Are these the 90mm lenses they sell? Please though, provide part numbers

Gentlemen, check out rallylights.com It is part of the Susquehanna group, carrying the 5 3/4" lights you require. It is the only place I have found for the conversion, and it is where I purchased the 700mm lights my vehicle required. I am using their 80/100 W bulbs, which required no conversion to relays. Let me know... Ray

    Looks good to me.
Off-road schmoff road. Use em anywhere, so long as they're aimed properly. Those new HID lights are the worst of the worst. I don't think any H4 or H1 light could be brighter, so why make them off-road only? Gah. Horse droppings

The H1 and H4 bulbs have a rating for the intensity. They are rated by intensity, and the rating is for the illumination on the road. The off-road rating is for the amount of light focused on the road. They are typically brighter than what the factory laughingly calls lighting. They are also better focused on the road, which reduces the glare experienced by other drivers, especially when properly aimed. The only time the difference may be noticed is during a state inspection, when they may be aimed. It is not likely to be noticed even then. When I did state inspections, the aiming was more important than the beam shape and the intensity, and typically, the issue was moot. The police are more concerned with speeding to notice the difference, especially since factory lighting has become so much brighter.

    Here's a thought

What if I bought, say some composite headlamps for the conversion for using H4 and H1, right?

And then purchased, for around $250, the HID kit for H4 bulbs.

    This would work, wouldn't it?
Then I'd have my HID cheap (coz the 5006 kit is about $1,200)
And still have some nice H-1 highbeams.

Or do you think the glass in these Hella kits wouldnt work well with HID h4 kit?
