What modifications are needed to install the 2 1/8 primary tube headers for a '68, into a 67 A body? Got the info on the merge collectors, thanks. Is anyone selling a TA fuel injection SPX intake with a welded on apater plate for TA TE heads? If not, I am sure TA would sell that manifold and a good machine shop could get the SPX cut and adapter welded on, then some port blending? Hope I got it right.
If using a SPX i myself wouldn't weld the flanges on,..thats only practical when using a Mopar intake,.. I would have the port openings welded up the reworked to match the TE port,...Wilson Manifolds would be my choice there. Just send them a TE gasket and the manifold they can properly machine the intake for the injectors also There is absolutely no difference in the headers for 64/72 in regards to tube shape,. They are all the same,...the 64 to 67 chassis is just tighter
The 2.125 pipes are a bitch to get in and out regardless,...BUT,...something like this will make life MUCH easier
Also you have a Tomahawk,...use the holes in the front of the block and motor plate that thing,...that will not only make the car work better but will make header installation and service a walk in the park
Tou can also lay the top of the frame in there where it turn up from the cowl,..above the LCA mount,..that will provide much needed room also. Go with an OE mark8 electric fan and ditch the power steering too,....
I need some clarification regarding the correct part number of the Mopar intake manifold you folks are using with the adapters to stage 2 TE heads. According to the Edelbrock catalog I have, the 2971 fits a 23 degree small block Chevy with raised ports. two manifolds are listed in this series for Mopar engines: Part number 2891 fits the 413-426-440 RB heads with standard ports (1.13”x2.17”). Part number 2893 fits the 413-426-440 RB heads with Max wedge ports (1.130”x2.258”). All of these intakes are designed for use with 4500 series carbs. I would assume you are using the 2981 with the smaller ports as that would provide more material to work with when porting to fit the Buick head. Do I have this right? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
If everything bolts up why not try it as is. I go 9.50s w a 555 Chevelle. 2” hooker comp headers w 3 1/2” collector to 3” pipes w a balance pipe to 3” borla bullets. Never an issue. Hooker part #2455 Want to buy Lemons but it works as is.
I am now trying to get the best set up! Anyone doing a precision Mopar or SPX manifold for the TA TE head with a direct injection set up? Tri Shield doesn't unless a full motor build. I am going to a custom header, stainless made with calculated primary tube and collector based on motor specs. Maybe a stepped system with a merge collector. Thanls Hugger for all your input. Cost is always primary but correct is paramount!
I might inject mine later. I have a complete FAST XFI system on my shelf. I had Wilson Manifolds do my last manifold and it was perfect. You are thinking right for the stepped header and merge collector. You look at those collectors and wonder how they could, but when you dyno them versus a traditional collector, then you see. They make power.
Wonder what gains if any would be seen on lesser motors like 482,470, 464 that are in the 600-700 range
I converted my 2.125 super comps with the Cone kit,.. turned out very nice no back to back test or anything but looked badass regardless ha
Hugger, is the SPX match the TA TE heads and block everywhete but the intake ports? Do I only need to resize and blend the intake ports? I saw the intake bosses and TA dose offet an injection system so they may sell that manifold. I do thank you for your input. Found a shop, Burns Stainless that I may have make the exhaust you guided me into, correct primary, maybe stepped and merge collectors. All based on specs. The better stainless option is what I am leaning towards. They are close. Costa Mesa!
