I have a '70 stage1 gs, 4spd car, and I am considering installing headers on it. I already have 2 1/2"mandrel bent exhaust with headpipe spools i can remove. What are your experiences with headers for fit, finish, etc.?

    For your Pretty car?:Brow:

TA Performance ful length headers with Jet-Hot coating...if your pockets are deep enough.

OR find a set of M/T Repro headers...(see picture - also jet hot coated)

yeah, for the pretty car... It should be as mean as it's capable of, shouldn't it? Brian Earick is working my engine over again.....after a rocker shaft failure. I figured while i had the mill out, maybe a set of headers....rejet the carb.....:TU: who knows what capabilities the ole girl can show us. I don't intend to have to ever look at any ford/mopar tailights if possible.....and them darn big block camaros are breeding....everywhere!

I am fairly sure you can order them through the gsca......they used to be available there. They pre-order them from time to time.

    headers

john, i installed ta headers on my 70 stage 1. i had them jet hot coated. they wrere nice but expensive. had to jack up the engine to get the right side in, left side was a very tight fit. they sounded nice but i was not happy with the ground clearance. i have ported cast iron manifolds on my gsx.

Thank you....did you have your manifolds ported, or do them yourself?

    I've been grinding mine out

Sorry I ever started that! A lot harder than I expected, the bits don't last too long, dirty also, but the worst is there is a bunch of iron to remove! Takes more time than you would expect. Buy Gessler's or go for the shorty's if your worried about ground clearance. :Brow:

    headers

john, i ported them myself. i run 3 inch exhaust out to 2 and a half inch tailpipes. the car runs mid 12s and its a street car. i cant justify the cost of a set of headers over ported exhaust manifolds just to pick up a tenth or two. dont know about the shorty headers, that might be the way to go for maximum performance. i like the stock appearing look!

I just put in the TA long headers in a 70. The only problem I had is do not use the gasket that came with them. I like the Postons best. Also make very sure to ream out the bolt holes. I do disconnet the steering shaft. Then I just jack the car up and slide them in from the bottom. With a stock suspension there should be little problem bottoming. Mine is lowered about 1 1/2 and will scrape occasionally.

Oh hey, I used the TA long tube headers on my car which was a 4 speed before I switched to the shorties. The long tube headers with a 4 speed are a nightmare. The collectors bolt up right in the middle of the trans crossmember and the top bolt of the collector is almost impossible to tighten. The headers would be fine for any other trans, but man o man that was a pain in the butt!!! Shorties are so much better!

I just got the TA headers with the Jet-Hot. Man these are nice fitting and look great. I ordered mine with TA's new top of the line gasket.
