Headers for a '70 Electra?

Hello. Has anyone found headers that fit a 1970 Electra? Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places but I can't find them anywhere. Even TA Performance just says that they're a "future project". I guess I could get some fabricated but I'd rather have headers which have been proven and which I know will fit. Thanks for any info.

Did you inquire about shorty headers with TA?

Or are those out of the question?

I hadn't really considered shorties but I'll look into them. There's a lot of good info in that thread, John. Thanks. I'm surprised that TA doesn't make headers for these cars. I guess it's the price we pay for having the coolest Buicks instead of the most popular.

I'd be open to the possibility of getting a batch done. I'll look around here in Ontario for a good custom shop but if modifying the TA shorties is the way to go then the extra shipping and duty to get all of the headers here to modify them and then send them back to the U.S. wouldn't be worth it, I don't think. How many people want in on this?

Here is the scoop on the 1967-1970 LeSabre, Electra, Wildcat & Fullsize Wagfon in regards to Headers. The steering box is behind the crossmember, right in the way where headers would be. The reason there is a shorty header that fits the Riviera of that generation is the Riv actually has wider frame rails, so even though the steering box is in the same place, it is further away from the engine. An unfortunate oversight during the development of the shortys.

Your best and most economical route (especially if you are open to fabbing headers) is to go with the full length headers. The Passenger side will fit fine and half of the driver's will fit fine also, what will be needed is re-configuring the last two tubes (#5 & #7) to clear the steering box. There has been a handful of people do this and it cost about $200 to modify the headers.

If you want to go shortys, then again the passenger side fits fine, but the entire driver's side will have to be made (no way to modify it). You essentially will want to mirror the passenger side to clear the box.

I got a pair of headers from a friend (Johnny Gribble, for those of you who know him, and he couldn't remember where they were from), but they fit my 70 LeSabre with some minor work. There are two support bars that were in the way that had to get cut out, and that's about it. I'll end up putting the bars back in an inch lower, as soon as I get a welder. But they went in easily enough (cleared the steering box) and work great. Maybe they're from Poston??

I'll take a few pics and attach them...it's tight, but it works.

That last one was hard to see, but you get the idea, they fit. My camera sucks, sorry.
